Risk management

We can improve the way your organisation manages risk; making it a value-add process that underpins strategic delivery. We can:

  • work with your leadership team and board to define organisational risk appetite. This helps organisations move to a more mature view of risk - and should underpin high quality strategic planning and decision-making

  • design and implement risk frameworks, including the identification, categorisation and scoring of risks. The framework will be tailored to the specific needs of your organisation

  • create or update a risk register and summary risk reports for audit committees and boards; helping to keep oversight at a suitably strategic level. Reports can include graphical presentation of the distribution of risk, by risk type, department or strategic theme

  • work with your audit function to create assurance frameworks and audit plans - ensuring strong alignment with the risk register.

In addition, we can provide interim management to run your risk function.

Organisational performance management

Leadership teams need early sight of variance (positive or negative) from plans, to support the prioritisation of resource and budgets. Our consultants can work with you to define a meaningful, value-add approach to managing organisational performance.

We’re experienced in working with managers and directors to define impactful measures and targets. And we can help you create high quality, accessible performance reports, that allow leadership teams, governance committees and trustees to identify success, and focus on areas that need attention. We’re confident and capable in working with large data sets, and use charts and infographics wherever possible to make complex data accessible. Our approach, and output reports, focus on the impact to beneficiaries as much as possible.

Improving SLT & board meetings

Too many charities are hampered by dysfunctional meetings. This can include a sub-group of voices dominating conversations, or an adversarial approach amongst participants. Sometimes discussions traditionally focus on the easy things to measure - reviewing operational, transactional data, rather than focussing on big-picture, strategic issues.

We can fix your meetings; reviewing the basics, such as frequency, duration and attendees. We can change the agenda and reformat papers, so that you’re taking the difficult, major decisions up-front. And implement a framework to ensure all participants have equal opportunity to input - which also improves the quality of collective listening and decision-making.
